The Plagues to Come

In regards to the all the buzz in the news about the heartless "Dr. Doom" - a.k.a. Dr. Pianka - and his scary predictions of an uncontrollable and unstoppable Ebola virus on its way to slay a good portion of the population, I have some insights to share.

No enlightened person wants to give into fear around ideas like the "Bird Flu" or other pandemics. However . . . in spite of Dr. Pianka's brutal assessment and in spite of the "Bird Flu" scare, there is some truth to widespread diseases becoming a real problem .... and you can take action now to boost your protection and be well on your way to staying healthy through the calamities to come.

Read on to find out more about what you can do. . .

Throughout the duration of this newsletter - which began circulation in 1999 - I have made efforts to keep to a more positive and uplifting format. My intention in doing so was born out of necessity: after all, we are continually bombarded with negative news and depressing views to the point of it being harmful to our well-being.

It is a well-researched fact that the more we focus on the ills of the world and the more our attention is drawn to the antics of sleazy characters amid our fellow human beings, the more vulnerable we become to the serious side-effects of news and commentary that places greater emphasis on the worst of human faults.

In addition, it is also a fact that the information one views or hears on major network tv, radio and syndicated publications is slanted, censored and minimized to the point of being misleading and purposely misinforming.

That is why I don't watch tv, don't listen to the radio and don't read the newspapers. I prefer to be selective about what I view and listen to. I get the news and information from other sources that offer a more accurate, uncensored, broader and in-depth perspective of the world condition. Largely these sources are found in grassroots hardcopy publicatons and on the web --- which seems to be our last forum for free speech and opinions.

So what does one do when disturbing and little understood information begins to loom larger and larger as a real public concern? Will it serve to blatantly state the facts regardless of how horrible the truth is and risk scaring people? Can focusing only on the positive be enough to steer public attention into taking healthier actions?

I've been struggling with this one because I firmly believe that whatever we focus on becomes more real simply because we feed it energy with our attention. And when lots of folks focus on the same ideas, it increases the momentum of manifestation --- and the more an idea picks up speed, the harder it becomes to alter its course.

The plagues and diseases to come have simply gained so much momentum now that there is little we can do stop them. But there are things we can do to minimize the impact these events can have on our personal lives.

So it becomes increasingly imperative that we focus on what we DO want to create ... not on what we DON'T want to create. And to focus more on what we CAN do rather than on what we CAN'T do.

To put it simply, if you want better health don't dwell on illness; instead, focus more on what creates genuine health.

This doesn't mean that you ignore illness --- there are plenty of folks running around in total denial of illness, don't want to hear about it and won't address any discomfort or imbalance in their own body (until it get too serious to ignore!).

Denial doesn't make illness go away; it will continue to take up space in your body and human energy field (aura) as well as the dark closets of your mind --- the subconscious.

Admit that you're tired --- but don't dwell on it over and over. Just do what you need to do ... like resting more or by eliminating the causes that make you tired.

If it exists, acknowledge that you have a bothersome health condition and do whatever you need to do to take care of it --- but don't dwell on it over and over. It has been proven that those who believe they can heal - while at the same time focusing on positive and healthy ways to deal with their condition - far more frequently overcome or greatly improve their health than those who tend to frequently think about or talk about how bad their condition is.

And when you're dealing with others with serious health conditions, don't deny their pain or worry --- it's actually far more harmful on an ill person if you ignore their complaints and suffering. The key here is that while it is important to acknowledge their struggles and to have compassion for their condition don't dwell on the issues. Listen with compassion if it helps - or physically help them to be more comfortable IF it is within your power to do so. But move the conversation on to more uplifting topics whenever possible.

Well! I'm getting off the track here . . . so let's move on . . .

Is Doom and Gloom around the corner?

There are situations rising that are increasingly difficult to present in a positive light. I've been aware of the probability of such situations since receiving messages from those beings from the future that I mention from time to time.

I realize, of course, that each time I mention these beings from the future I risk appearing to be a looney. But when I see for myself that much of what they have told me over the years is continuing to come true, I have to accept that they gave me accurate information and they gave it to me for a reason.

Throughout history as well as in modern times, others as have been singled out by extraordinary visitors that came to them as angels, apparitions, extraterrestrials or other unusual presences. The reasons for these visits vary widely. However, in the majority of cases, the thrust of such visits seem to be motivated by an important message or warning.

Even though the messages I received from these future beings were always uplifting and inspiring - even amusing at times (they had a great sense of humor) - they did offer crucial insights into potential world events if humanity didn't change the direction it was heading.

A Glimpse of the Future

In one such vision they showed of future earth, I saw that the entire planet had less than 1/4 of the current population. When I asked why there was a dramatic reduction in population, they would not answer me (they did this a lot, much to my frustration!). Eventually, they did give me the answers: but not before I had sufficient preparation since the answers often seemed so out of context to current popular beliefs and viewpoints that I would not have accepted their answer until I had gained a certain amount of learning and understanding in specific areas.

And this is how they answered . . .

There were far fewer people populating earth in the future because: 1) environmental pollution had taken its toll on the very young and the very old in the early to mid 21st century 2) severe climatic events claimed lives in vulnerable locations 3) many took to living in space stations that orbited earth or took to traveling to other destinations in our solar system towards the end of this century 4) the largest take on human life however were the hundreds of millions that had succumbed to a wide variety of plagues, epidemics and degenerative diseases as the direct result of damaged and poorly functioning human immune systems.

Reduction in population was not caused by a nuclear holocaust nor a world war. Nor was it caused by a flip in the earth's axis nor a devastating ice age. It was not caused by a colossal meteor crashing into earth. And we were not invaded by an evil alien race.

The vast majority of human populations decreased as a direct result of our disrespect for the earth, disrespect for the animals, disrespect for each other and disrespect for our own bodies.

Even as I write this, folks everywhere are getting sick with serious health conditions that were once considered rare or once considered to be conditions of the extreme elderly. Everywhere I see increasing numbers of people in their 40s and 50s being diagnosed with troubling health conditions:

high blood pressure
cardiovascular/heart disease
diabetes
multiplesclerosis and other neuromuscular diseases
digestive disorders, liver, gall bladder and kidney dysfunction
diseases of the colon
arthritis
chronic fatigue
osteoporosis
hormone imbalances
thyroid dysfunction
Alzheimers
premature senility/dementia

... along with continuing rise in cancer, HIV, AIDS .... and the list goes on and on.

All of the above are called degenerative diseases because they are associated with the gradual disintegration and aging of the body caused by a malfunctioning immune system.

While we're at it, depression, mental and emotional disorders, developmental delays in children and a long list of other psychological and neurological imbalances are included in the mix.

If a person with such a afflictions resorts to conventional medical practices and is then prescribed medications (drugs) for long-term or life-time use ... then other complications arise due to toxic side effects from long-term use of these chemicals (which only treat symptoms, not the core reason for the ailment and thereby greatly reducing the chance for genuine healing).

A Healthy and Strong Immune System

The human immune system was one of my electives in college. I was totally captivated and fascinated with this crucially important function of our body: it goes about its work - without our conscious awareness - 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

The immune system, I discovered, is a miraculous and intelligent system which is specifically designed to keep the body healthy. That is all it was designed to do. However, in order for it to do its job well, it needs the appropriate amount of proper nutrients along with a supportive environment and lifestyle.

The typical American diet as well as the usual fast-paced lifestyle, exposure to increasing pollution and the pressure, stress and focus on accumulating possessions, pushing to get ahead and so forth ... is beginning to take its toll by robbing people - while they are still young - of the excellent health they deserve AND deserve to have well into their elder years.

Add to above list the frequent or regular use of alcohol; prescription and over-the-counter medications; recreational, psychoactive and hallucinatory drugs; and over-stimulation from other unhealthy habits --- then the chances for illness and premature aging has been accelerated even more.

When our immune system is strong and healthy, it does its job of protecting us from diseases and other imbalances such as those mentioned above as well as heal our body from injuries. Or if we do happen to succumb to disease or injury, a strong and healthy immune system will repair, heal and rejuvenate our body without fail --- even making it far easier to correct depression, developmental delays and all psychological and neurological imbalances.

Our immune system will do whatever it takes to return our body to optimum physical, mental and emotional health --- but it can only do this when it has the proper nutrients, right attitude and supportive lifestyle to do so.

Disease and imbalance happens because our immune system can't do its job. And it can't do its job when its function has been greatly compromised.

A compromised immune system can be the direct result of one or more of the following . . .

1) faulty eating habits --- preponderance of meat, dairy and animal/dairy by-products; processed, cooked, denatured foods low in nutritional value and low or zero in life force energy
2) restless, fast paced lifestyle --- not enough relaxed play, rest and quiet reflection
3) long term stress --- job and/or relationship related, emotional, mental, financial, physical, etc.
4) fault-finding and pessimistic attitude
5) unfullfilling work and/or low creativity
5) lack of faith in a loving, higher power or lack of a nurturing spiritual practice
6) long term exposure to toxins --- prescription and over the counter drugs; pesticides in foods and other synthetic chemicals and additives commonly found in commercial foods and products; recreational, psychoactive and hallucinatory drugs; air and water pollution and other environmental factors

Sorry to paint such a dismal picture. But as you get older, it will likely become more obvious that the future is already unfolding as increasing numbers of folks are getting serious illnesses at younger ages. There are even greater numbers of children being born with or acquiring illnesses that were once only found in the elderly!

Now that you know, don't you also want to know what you can do about it?

What about those increasing life spans?

In previous Earthcode newsletters, you read that a lot of folks will live to be healthy at 120 and beyond. But that won't happen without conscious effort. If we want to be a part of the future in a happy, healthy manner, we have to begin today in making the appropriate changes that will help us get there in good shape.

Besides simplifying your lifestyle and doing more of what brings you joy, love and fulfillment --- building a strong immune system is a must! If it takes making a critical lifestyle change in order to rebuild and strengthen your immune system, then do whatever it takes to make it happen. You won't be sorry.

The plagues and epidemics are coming. We can't stop them with any amount of vaccines or prescription drugs. The best we can do for ourselves is the love and care we show our own body by building health now the sensible way.

In all of nature, one never sees wild animals at the mercy of degenerative diseases, plagues or epidemics -- UNTIL there is an imbalance in the species! An imbalance usually occurs when for some reason a specie becomes overpopulated. When there are too many critters to exhaust the food supply, there often follows a shortage of adequate levels of nutrition ... which is then followed by increasing weaknesses because of less nutrition. What follows after that is greater vulnerability to diseases. That is when you will hear or read about masses of wild animals succumbing to plagues that wipe out huge numbers of them. Those that survive are usually the healthiest and strongest.

And what do we see happening in the world today among humans? Over population; shortage of nutritious food - either by poor food choices or forced through poverty or famine; increasing immune system weaknesses and vulnerabilities; plagues, epidemics and degenerative diseases on the rise.

The question that now remains . . . will you be one of the strong ones that survive and thrive?

There is a brilliant and beautiful era on earth yet to come ... the one that many of us have longed for. Will you be among those who will help to usher in the new world?

How to Stay in the Present Moment

1) Inhabit the body. Sense the aliveness that is in the body. This takes your attention away from thought. The practice of physical movements such as Tai Chi helps. Sensing the body becomes an anchor for staying present in the now.

2) Make it your practice to welcome this moment, no matter what form it takes. Say yes to whatever is "now". There is only one moment, but different forms of it. The secret is not to resist these forms. Surrendering to the forms that arise takes you to the formless in yourself. You then sense a spaciousness around whatever happens in your life. People, events, situations, objects come and go.

Being in the now moment liberates you from form, from the world.
With that liberation comes enormous peace.

--- Eckhart Tolle (Best Selling Author of THE POWER OF NOW)

The Transformation of Consciousness

"Because we all carry the Truth within us as our essence, we recognize it immediately."

Eckhart Tolle - author of the remarkable best selling book, "The Power of Now" - was a research scholar at Cambridge University, when at age 29, a spiritual transformation changed the course of his life, marking the start of an intense inward journey that led him first to become a counselor and spiritual teacher.

In a world that desperately needs freedom from suffering and violence, Eckhart Tolle has brought forth a powerful, healing message: Accept the now moment fully. Herein lies the path to peace.

Excerpts from website

A deep yearning is felt for that which is true, enduring, and trustworthy. Is it discoverable?

It’s perhaps more attainable now than at any other time in the history of humanity. Transformational consciousness until recently has been a luxury on the planet. A few individuals here and there underwent transformation but never on a large scale. It wasn’t necessary for the planet. Neither the survival of humanity nor of the planet was threatened before now, although there already existed the madness or insanity inherent in the human mind—by which I mean the thinking mind, not the deeper consciousness. This madness has been going on for a long time, but it has never threatened the survival of humanity.

It’s only when science and technology arrived that this threat began. The tools of science and technology amplified the effects of the madness of the egoic mind. So the survival of the planet began to be threatened, and with it the survival of humanity. The planet will not survive another hundred years of the same state of consciousness that produced the external effects of recent history.

Imagine the twenty-first century being a continuation of the destruction and violence we’ve seen. It’s no longer a question of the luxury of a few individuals here and there becoming liberated. It has become a necessity.

Humanity as a species must change dramatically and radically or our survival is at stake..

An awakening of consciousness

Things are both getting better and getting worse. The madness is accelerating but an acceleration of the new consciousness is also coming in. However, this latter development is less apparent when you listen to the media. The media still mostly reflects what is happening in the sphere of the old consciousness.

Despair and suffering can sometimes catalyze enlightenment

Many people know this from their own lives, especially if they have gone through intense suffering or great loss, or faced death in one way or another— either their own physical death, a psychological death, or the death of somebody very close to them.

Some form of suffering often brings about a readiness. One can say it cracks open the shell of the egoic mind with which many people identify as “me.” Life cracks open that shell, and once that crack is there, then we are reached more easily by spiritual teaching. We’re suddenly open to it, because it reaches the deeper levels of our being.

Something from within—not from our conditioned mind but from the deeper level of unconditioned consciousness—responds immediately. Often all that is needed to evoke this response is to listen to one statement of Truth and immediately there’s a response.

Because we all carry the Truth within us as our essence, we recognize it immediately.

Recent events, as terrible as they’ve been, have the potential to bring greater enlightenment

Especially for those of us living in the Western culture, death to a large extent is still a taboo subject. It’s considered something dreadful that shouldn’t be happening. It’s usually denied. The fact of death is not faced.

What we don’t realize in Western culture is that death has a redemptive dimension. There is another side to death. Whether death happens through an act of violence to a large number of people or to an individual, whether death comes prematurely through illness or accident, or whether death comes through old age, death is always an opening. So a great opportunity comes whenever we face death.

When someone dies to old ideas, there’s a psychological death. Thought-forms with which one had identified as “me”—an egoic identity—suddenly collapse.

In the face of death, especially violent death, things don’t make sense anymore. So death is the dissolution of either physical form or psychological form. And when a form dissolves, always something shines through that had been obscured by the form. This is the formless One Life, the formless One Consciousness.

Death is the moment of form dissolving. When that dissolving is not resisted, an opening appears into the dimension of the sacred, into the One formless, unmanifested Life. This is why death is such an incredible opportunity. There is no transformation of human consciousness without the dissolving that death - physical or psychological - can bring.

What kind of health, quality of life and level of joy do you want to have in your 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's and beyond???

Its never too soon nor too late to consider your future health - as the foundation of health you will have in your elder years is being built today.

Did you know . . .

. . . that no matter how many potions, lotions, cremes, ointments or "miracle" oils you put on your skin, if your diet lacks the health-building nutrients that build healthy skin then all the effects of skin cremes - even the most expensive ones - won't last! This is a fact.

As you age, old, nutrient-starved and damaged skin eventually rises to the surface to "take over".

Don't believe the old cliches about growing old!

You can still have clarity of mind; you can still have a strong and agile body; you can still have a cheerful attitude toward life; you can still have a healthy apearance --- you can have all of this up until the day you die.

This is not fantasy - but is actually a more normal and natural way to age. All that is needed is to learn how to live a health-building life-style.

You have a choice: you can have healthy looking skin well into your elder years - and feel great and healthy, too - or be prepared to accept the inevitable!

Along with healthier skin automatically comes a healthier mind, balanced emotions, stronger immune system, resilient body and a more cheerful attitude.

Consciousness will ever be understood to the satisfaction of science. Nevertheless, scientists still try to fit the mysteries of creation into neat little categories. Perhaps, as University Professor David Chalmers states in the article below, we should stop trying to reduce consciousness into something else.

Sounds like wisdom to me!   After all, there are some things in life that are meant to be experienced in awe and wonder.

Why Great Minds Can't Grasp Consciousness

by   Ker Than
LiveScience Staff Writer

. . . behaviors associated with consciousness include questions such as these: How does perception occur? How does the brain bind different kinds of sensory information together to produce the illusion of a seamless experience?

. . . the strength of a conscious experience is determined by the mind and the strength of its existing neuronal connections -- connections forged from past experiences.

Part of the mystery and excitement about consciousness is that scientists don't know what form the final answer will take.

Beyond the mystics

Roger Penrose, a mathematical physicist at Oxford University, believes that if a "theory of everything" is ever developed in physics to explain all the known phenomena in the universe, it should at least partially account for consciousness.

Penrose also believes that quantum mechanics, the rules governing the physical world at the subatomic level, might play an important role in consciousness.

It wasn't that long ago that the study of consciousness was considered to be too abstract, too subjective or too difficult to study scientifically. But in recent years, it has emerged as one of the hottest new fields in biology, similar to string theory in physics or the search for extraterrestrial life in astronomy.

No longer the sole purview of philosophers and mystics, consciousness is now attracting the attention of scientists from across a variety of different fields, each, it seems, with their own theories about what consciousness is and how it arises from the brain.

In many religions, consciousness is closely tied to the ancient notion of the soul, the idea that in each of us, there exists an immaterial essence that survives death and perhaps even predates birth. It was believed that the soul was what allowed us to think and feel, remember and reason.

Our personality, our individuality and our humanity were all believed to originate from the soul. Nowadays, these things are generally attributed to physical processes in the brain, but exactly how chemical and electrical signals between trillions of brain cells called neurons are transformed into thoughts, emotions and a sense of self is still unknown.

"Almost everyone agrees that there will be very strong correlations between what's in the brain and consciousness," says David Chalmers, a philosophy professor and Director of the Center for Consciousness at the Australian National University. "The question is what kind of explanation that will give you. We want more than correlation, we want explanation -- how and why do brain process give rise to consciousness? That's the big mystery."

Just accept it

Chalmers is best known for distinguishing between the 'easy' problems of consciousness and the 'hard' problem.

The easy problems are those that deal with functions and behaviors associated with consciousness and include questions such as these: How does perception occur? How does the brain bind different kinds of sensory information together to produce the illusion of a seamless experience?

"Those are what I call the easy problems, not because they're trivial, but because they fall within the standard methods of the cognitive sciences," Chalmers says.

The hard problem for Chalmers is that of subjective experience.

"You have a different kind of experience -- a different quality of experience -- when you see red, when you see green, when you hear middle C, when you taste chocolate," Chalmers told LiveScience. "Whenever you're conscious, whenever you have a subjective experience, it feels like something."

According to Chalmers, the subjective nature of consciousness prevents it from being explained in terms of simpler components, a method used to great success in other areas of science. He believes that unlike most of the physical world, which can be broken down into individual atoms, or organisms, which can be understood in terms of cells, consciousness is an irreducible aspect of the universe, like space and time and mass.

"Those things in a way didn't need to evolve," said Chalmers. "They were part of the fundamental furniture of the world all along."

Instead of trying to reduce consciousness to something else, Chalmers believes consciousness should simply be taken for granted, the way that space and time and mass are in physics. According to this view, a theory of consciousness would not explain what consciousness is or how it arose; instead, it would try to explain the relationship between consciousness and everything else in the world.

Not everyone is enthusiastic about this idea, however.

'Not very helpful'

"It's not very helpful," said Susan Greenfield, a professor of pharmacology at Oxford University.

"You can't do very much with it," Greenfield points out. "It's the last resort, because what can you possibly do with that idea? You can't prove it or disprove it, and you can't test it. It doesn't offer an explanation, or any enlightenment, or any answers about why people feel the way they feel."

Greenfield's own theory of consciousness is influenced by her experience working with drugs and mental diseases.

Unlike some other scientists -- most notably the late Francis Crick, co-discoverer of the structure of DNA, and his colleague Christof Koch, a professor of computation and neural systems at Caltech -- who believed that different aspects of consciousness like visual awareness are encoded by specific neurons, Greenfield thinks that consciousness involves large groups of nonspecialized neurons scattered throughout the brain.

Important for Greenfield's theory is a distinction between 'consciousness' and 'mind,' terms that she says many of her colleagues use interchangeably, but which she believes are two entirely different concepts.

"You talk about losing your mind or blowing your mind or being out of your mind, but those things don't necessarily entail a loss of consciousness," Greenfield said in a telephone interview. "Similarly, when you lose your consciousness, when you go to sleep at night or when you're anesthetized, you don't really think that you're really going to be losing your mind."

Like the wetness of water

According to Greenfield, the mind is made up of the physical connections between neurons. These connections evolve slowly and are influenced by our past experiences and therefore, everyone's brain is unique.

But whereas the mind is rooted in the physical connections between neurons, Greenfield believes that consciousness is an emergent property of the brain, similar to the 'wetness' of water or the 'transparency' of glass, both of which are properties that are the result of -- that is, they emerge from -- the actions of individual molecules.

For Greenfield, a conscious experience occurs when a stimulus -- either external, like a sensation, or internal, like a thought or a memory -- triggers a chain reaction within the brain. Like in an earthquake, each conscious experience has an epicenter, and ripples from that epicenter travels across the brain, recruiting neurons as they go.

Mind and consciousness are connected in Greenfield's theory because the strength of a conscious experience is determined by the mind and the strength of its existing neuronal connections -- connections forged from past experiences.

Part of the mystery and excitement about consciousness is that scientists don't know what form the final answer will take.

"If I said to you I'd solved the hard problem, you wouldn't be able to guess whether it would be a formula, a model, a sensation, or a drug," said Greenfield. "What would I be giving you?"

A lady about 8 months pregnant got on a bus. She noticed the man opposite her was smiling at her. Feeling uncomfortable, she immediately moved to another seat. This time his smile turned into a big grin, so she moved again. The man became more amused when on the fourth move he burst out laughing. Being greatly disturbed by his behavior, she complained to the bus driver who promptly had the man arrested for harassment.

When the case came up in court, the judge asked the man (who was about 20 years old) what he had to say for himself. The man replied, "Well your Honor, it was like this:

When the lady got on the bus, I couldn't help but notice her condition. She sat under a candy sign that said: "The Double Mint Twins are Coming" and I grinned. Then she moved and sat under a sign that said: "Logan's Liniment will reduce the swelling", and it got funnier. Then she placed herself under a deodorant sign that said, "William's Big Stick Did the Trick", and I could hardly contain myself.

"BUT, your Honor, when she moved the fourth time and sat under a sign that said, "Goodyear Rubber could have prevented this Accident"... I just lost it."

"CASE DISMISSED!!"
